Good morning!

In today’s newsletter, we have the winners and the unofficial final numbers from Tuesday’s election for the city of Ames and surrounding school districts. (The Voice's first election!) There's also a recap of the forum for the first of two candidates for president of Iowa State University. The second candidate will present later today.

We’re a couple of weeks into our hard launch of the Ames Voice, and we're so excited to keep bringing you the news. We’ve grown by over 100 subscribers since our launch party. Thank you! Ames approves new fire station; mayor, city council, hospital trustees reelected

Ames voters approved spending $10.5 million to relocate Fire Station No. 2 from the heart of Campustown to State Avenue.

There were 5,881 votes on the question in Tuesday’s election, according to unofficial election results from the Iowa Secretary of State. The bond, labeled as “City of Ames Public Measure B,” garnered 5,099 yes votes — 86.7%. 782 people voted no.

The city proposed replacing Fire Station No. 2 with a bigger station on land at 601 State Ave. that Iowa State University will let the city use for free.

This satirical comedy musical is set in a town where the water has dried up and peeing becomes a privilege you have to pay for. The righteous revolutionaries, corrupt officials and a very public restroom collide with singing and dancing.

Visit Campustown for an afternoon of mini golf hosted at nine neighborhood businesses. Scorecards are available and you can enter to win prizes upon completing eight or more holes.

🎶 Soweto Gospel Choir

Formed in 2002, the Soweto Gospel Choir was created to celebrate the unique power of African gospel music. They return to North America to perform a joyful program of South African freedom songs, traditional spirituals and some classics.
