Welcome to this week's edition!

As the fall air settles in, our community's energy is high. This week, we're catching up on all the excitement, from the Ames High Homecoming parade to some significant wins for the Iowa State Cyclones on the gridiron.

We also have an update on the new Ames Animal Shelter as it nears its goal, and a packed calendar of local events.

We will be having our official launch party on Thursday, Oct. 23, at the ISU Research Park. You are all invited, so save the date and be on the lookout for our formal invitation on Saturday, which will include the RSVP details.

Ames High Homecoming

Students, residents and Little Cyclone fans crowded Main Street on Monday to kick off Ames High’s homecoming week with the annual parade.

The parade featured various sports teams, school organizations and the marching band. The parade also included the students voted to the homecoming court.

The homecoming celebration continues with the football team taking on the Council Bluffs Lincoln Lynx on Friday night.

Campaign nears fundraising goal for new Ames animal shelter

The fundraising campaign for a new Ames Animal Shelter is $300,000 from meeting its $7.5 million goal.

Aging Knoll residence shows issues in regent analysis

Calling nerf enthusiasts of any age! After sign-in, there will be a safety check (10:30), team selection (10:45) and loading and chronograph checks (10:55) before the game starts at 11:30. Full length darts will be provided. Eye protection is required but not provided. Mags won't be provided.

👨‍🏫 Lecture: The Story of Feed Sacks

Based on her book, Feed Sacks: The Colourful History of a Frugal Fabric, Linzee Kull McCray will share both the beauty of feed sacks and their importance in the social and economic history of the times in which they were made and used. Historic photos, vintage advertising, and actual sacks will be included.
