Your Ames Voice
Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025
Hello and happy two-weeks-to-Christmas!
If you still need to get in that holiday spirit, we have an events list that can help.
In today’s newsletter, we have an interview with Iowa State University President Wendy Wintersteen as she reflects on her 46 years at the university.
The Ames City Council is moving forward to protect people from discrimination based on gender identity, which goes beyond the Iowa Civil Rights Act.
We also have a recap from last night’s CyHawk Women’s Basketball Game, highlighting Audi Crooks’ dominant performance for the Cyclones.
Thank you for your continued support,

Wendy Wintersteen reflects on 46 years at ISU: ‘It’s bittersweet to leave’
by Kyle Werner | Staff Reporter | Published on Dec. 9, 2025
President Wendy Wintersteen sits at her desk adorned with memorabilia from her 46 years at Iowa State University: a Jack Trice medal, a photo of her husband, Robert Waggoner and small pieces of art reminiscent of her entomology days.
From her first days on campus to the last ones weeks from now, Wintersteen made her mark on Iowa State.
“Under my time as president, I’ve tried to continue to build on our culture of transparency and shared governance, that when we have a problem to solve, we do it together,” Wintersteen said.
She is the university’s first female president and second ISU graduate to hold the position.
